The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is in the process of developing the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2009 Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (SAPT) Block Grant Application. An open comment period from September 16 until no later than 5:00 PM on September 25 has been established to permit individuals to review the application and respond with any comments or questions. The SAPT Block Grant is a grant award from the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in which the amount
going to each state is determined through the use of a formula with
population being a major consideration.
The amount received by The block grant funds are spent for substance abuse prevention and treatment programs. Approximately 75% of the funding is utilized to further substance abuse treatment while 20% is set-aside for prevention services. The other 5% pays for administrative services including financial tracking of the funds; data collection and analysis through the Department’s Integrated Client Information System (ICIS) database; development of outcome information to ensure services are helping the clients move toward full recovery; and monitoring of treatment and prevention programs. The block grant provides funding for treatment services for individuals with alcohol and other drug addictions who do not have the ability to pay for such services. The SAPT block grant funding supports treatment and prevention services for many Oklahomans that would not otherwise be able to receive services. The block grant application has been posted to the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services website, www.odmhsas.org/2009SAPT.pdf for public review. Please contact Mary Hagerty at mhagerty@odmhsas.org or 405-522-3859 if you have comments or questions. |
