NIDA Research Report: Inhalant AbuseThis eight-page brochure brings together the latest scientific information about inhalants, a group of substances that pose serious health dangers for young people. NIDA's Monitoring the Future study reveals that approximately 20 percent of 8th graders have abused inhalants. Key to the problem is the fact that common household products such as glues, paints, and cleaning fluids are often used to provide the vapors that can produce an "inhalant high." This brochure defines inhalants, discusses the patterns of use, gives an idea of the scope of the problem in our nation, describes the way inhalants work on the brain, and more.
